Our Little Roses Mission trip

From June 26 to July 3, a group of eight Springside students, two CHA students, one Springside alumna, one Springside teacher, and members of the St. Thomas’ Church Whitemarsh community are taking a mission trip to San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The purpose of this trip is to run a week-long camp at Our Little Roses Orphanage, an orphanage for abused and abandoned girls.

Allie Colina ’10 first brought the orphanage to the attention of the school back in 2007 and she has worked tirelessly to promote this project with students. This is Allie’s fifth trip to the Honduran orphanage and Allie Tiger’s ’12 second. Other Springside students traveling with the group are seniors Stephanie Sherman and Lena Rice, sophomore Molly Stein, and freshmen Ashley Beggin, Paris Baldante, and Kylie Grow.

Fundraising for the trip will take place May 24-27 in the Carpenter Gallery. Students from the student club Our Little Roses (OLR) will be selling trip T-shirts ($10, $12 XXL), Honduran sandals, jewelry, and other crafts. The sale will be happening from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM each day. Supplies are very limited so come early.

St. Thomas Church is also hosting a "Roast for Roses"  on Saturday evening June 5, 7-11 PM. The cost is $25 and includes childcare (12 and under) provided by Springside students in a separate building on the church grounds. Raffle baskets, 50/50, DJ, karaoke, and food!

Please email Chuck Matthews  to purchase tickets or to donate to the mission.

Below is a link to a six-minute video about the orphanage and the girls. Please take a few minutes to watch the video to learn about this very special place and the young women we are going to help.
